Most people are familiar with Alexa. It’s a box that works with the internet and if you talk to her, she will talk back.

She knows everything from the weather, what’s going on in the news, the date, ask her anything.

“Alexa, what’s the weather today?”

“Today is going to be cool and 56 degrees.”

“Alexa, tell me a joke.”

“Why was Cinderella so bad at soccer?

-she kept running away from the ball.”

She laughed.

At fifty she still lived by herself. She poured herself into her work after high school and said, kids can wait. Wait for what she wondered now. What had she accomplished? She was at the top of her company, but who does she have to celebrate with? No one. She can’t go on vacations with anyone special because she never had anyone. She had no one to celebrate holidays with either.

“Alexa, am I going to have a good day?”

“Yes, you’re going to be the best you can be and you’re going to give them your all.”

“Alexa, thank you.”

“You’re welcome. Have a great day.”

Some days we feel lonely, whether we live alone or have six kids. We need someone to talk to, but not necessarily someone to tell us what to do or how to do it.

She put the key in the door to unlock it.

“Alexa, I’m home.”

“Welcome back.”

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

She sat in the chair next to Alexa.

“Alexa, when am I going to have a family?”

“I cannot tell you the future, that’s up to you.”

“I’m not sure that I like your response.”

“I only tell the truth. You can take it or leave it.”

It was times like this that she missed her mom. She was brutally honest if you wanted to hear it or not and even if you didn’t ask. But she always did what her mom told her, even if she didn’t like it.

Her mom told her, after high school move out on your own before you get married. Find out who you are and what you want before you get into a relationship and that’s what she did. She was so busy with her life that she forgot about dating. When her job needed her to work, she did. It was easy to say yes when you lived by yourself.

“Alexa, what should I have for dinner?”

“I don’t need food to keep me going but you should order Chinese from that place down the road.”

“Alexa that sounds good.”

“When you’re done I can pull up a list of men on tender if you would like.”

“Alexa you always know what I’m thinking.”

“I have your back babe. You’re a wonderful, amazing person. But maybe it’s time to find a human friend.”

She knew Alexa was right. She needed someone that she could talk to and have a conversation with. Even if she hadn’t found companionship, she still needed friends.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.

Friendship provides support, making difficult times, easier to deal with.

Isaiah 41:10

Fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Even when we feel alone, we aren’t alone. Even when you have a ton of friends but don’t think that you can talk to them, there is always one that you can talk to and that’s is God. He won’t judge you no matter what you have done. You can tell him anything and he will listen.
